Ngurah Rai Airport Bali & Nyepi

Last updated: February 21, 2011

The Head of the Bali Transportation Department has asked all tour and travel companies to inform tourists about the following:

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS/Denpasar) in Bali will be closed to all departures and arrivals for 24 hours beginning from 6am on Saturday March 5th 2011, in observance of a Hindu religious holiday called “Nyepi“, which is held to mark the Saka New Year.

Nyepi is a day of silence, fasting, and meditation for Hindus, and both Balinese and their Indonesian and foreign guests are required to stay indoors; no traveling into, out of, or around the island is permitted.

Additionally four sea ports, at Gilimanuk, Padangbai, Celukan Bawang Port and Benoa, will also be closed.
