Sriwijaya Air to offer business class, starting 15 May 2012.

Indonesia’s third most popular airline, Sriwijaya Air, is about to join its top ranked competitors – Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air – in offering business class on some flights.

Sriwijaya Business/Executive Class

Sriwijaya Air’s business class service includes the standard extras: free entry to the executive lounge, 30kg baggage allowance, priority check-in, more comfortable seats, enough legroom extra legroom, real food in-flight meals, etc. However, Sriwijaya Air has “raised the bar” in one way; it will be the first to give business class passengers a free ride to the airport, in a specially marked Sriwijaya Air car.

Please note that – like Lion Air – Sriwijaya Air will offer business class on some routes only:

On routes where it flies more than once per day, Sriwijaya Air also will offer business class on selected flights, not all flights. As a guide, here are some Sriwijaya Air routes popular with tourists (as well as businessmen/women) which have multiple daily flights, and some with business class:

Origin Destination Business and
Economy Classes
Economy Class Only
Jakarta Medan 16:20 09:05, 18:50
Jakarta Surabaya 05:45, 18:00 09:10, 11:05, 11:35, 20:00
Jakarta Ujung Pandang
(a.k.a. Makassar)
00:30, 05:30 13:00, 22:45
Jakarta Yogyakarta 18:00 12:30

Sriwijaya Air’s business class service will commence on all routes on 15 May 2012. The large number of routes/planes starting to offer business class from the same date suggests business class is being retro-fitted to Sriwijaya Air’s existing aircraft, not only installed on their new planes.

If you would like to try Sriwijaya Air’s new business class service, please fill in an enquiry form and select the preferences “has business/executive class” and “Sriwijaya Air”.

The large number of routes/planes starting to offer business class from the same date suggests business class is being retro-fitted to Sriwijaya Air’s existing aircraft, not only installed on their new planes.

This has now been confirmed independently by The Jakarta Post here:

According to Sriwijaya Air’s corporate communications manager, Agus Soedjono, the airline has modified seven airplanes comprising one Boeing B737-800NG, one B7373-500, three Boeing B737-400s and two Boeing B737-300s, to accommodate the business-class segment.

  2. Chris says:

Sriwijaya Air is now offering a special deal on executive class:
Sriwijaya Air Executive Class Special Deal
What they wanted to say is “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” or “Get 2 For the Price of 1”.

In effect, two passengers could fly executive class for an economy class price.

The offer is valid for flights before 30 April 2013.
