Citilink flight numbers to change from GAxxx to QGxxx, starting today.

Garuda Indonesia’s award-winning budget airline, Citilink, is in the process of being “spun off” and registered as an independent company.

As part of this change, Citilink will no longer share the “GAxxx” flight number with its full-service brother.

Citilink Flight Number Change

Effective 30 July 2012, all Citilink flights will be denoted as “QGxxx”, not “GAxxx”.

Citilink also has a second new logo in less than a year.

It is certainly an interesting and different move for the Garuda Indonesia group to focus on just a full-service airline.

Many of their peers now operate both full-service and low-cost/budget airlines.

Similarly, other Indonesian domestic airlines are moving into Garuda’s full-service territory. Sriwijaya Air now offers business class on selected flights, while Lion Air is launching a new full-service airline next year. Indonesia’s first private full-service airline, Pacific Royale, commenced operations earlier this year.

Only time will tell if this is a smart move by Garuda Indonesia management. Currently, Garuda Indonesia is currently one of the few airlines that is making a profit, increasing passenger numbers and opening new routes (both domestic and international). It will also soon join the SkyTeam alliance.
